What is Archaeology ?

Archaeologists are thought to have an extremely fascinating profession; unfortunately, lots of people quite often mistake us for the scientists who dig up dinosaur bones... palaeontologists! Archaeologists have absolutely nothing to do with dinosaurs. Nothing. In fact, archaeology is the branch of anthropology (the study of humanity) that concentrates on the study and interpretation of the material remains of past cultures (humans and dinosaurs never co-existed). Many cultures exist in this world and each one of them is a specialised branch of archaeology.

My specialty is ancient Egypt and the Sudan, which means that I am sometimes called an Egyptologist (a person who studies ancient Egypt) or a Nubiologist (someone specialised in the study of Nubia, a geographical region located in the south of Egypt and the north of Sudan).
